A valuable tool for students who would like to study abroad in English, the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test opens more doors than any other academic English test. More than 6,000 institutions and agencies in 110 countries rely on TOEFL scores to select students with the English skills needed to succeed. The TOEFL test covers all facets of English proficiency, including a test of spoken English.

There are over a dozen bars in the uptown in close proximity to the school, 5 of which offer live entertainment regularly.
Within 5 minutes from the uptown, you will find Rockwood Park, the largest park inside of any city in Canada. It offers a public golf course, miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and a supervised beach.

There are a number of ocean front beaches within 15 minutes driving distance.

Irving Nature Park, located about 5 minutes from the uptown offers walking and hiking trails right next to the ocean.

During the summer, there is a ton of free live entertainment throughout the uptown.
Imperial Theatre is one of the nicest soft seat theatres in the country and offers a constant flow of shows, ranging from theatre productions to concerts of all kinds.
Harbour Station is host to the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 7,000 seat arena offers internationally touring artists such as Aerosmith, Guns 'n Roses, Barenaked Ladies and more.

Skiing is available close by at Poley Mountain and also at Crabbe Mountain.

The Saint John River offers ample of opportunity for whitewater kayaking, sailing and other water sports, while you can enjoy a wet ride on the jet boats at the Reversing Falls.

For those about to shop...The uptown offers many small and unique shops and services that still have that personal touch, including a number of local galleries and the Saint John Arts Centre. The Saint John City Market offers daily experiences in international and local foods, local crafts and live entertainment during the summer. The usual array of big box stores can be found in the city's East End.

Performing Art Companies in the city include Symphony New Brunswick, The Saint John Theatre Company and InterAction Children's Theatre Company.

Saint John has a great transit system. A monthly Student Pass is $49.00 (approx. $0.98 per ride). A large part of the uptown hotspots is connected by a pedway system, meaning that you don't have to step outside to go from the City Market to Brunswick Square, Market Square or to Harbour Station. Harbour Passage is situated alongside the Saint John waterfront and is a favorite spot for people to jog or walk.

The University of New Brunswick Saint John Campus and the New Brunswick Community College both have a large student population and you will be meeting these students along your travels in town.
A new state of the art X-Park was opened in 2008 next to Harbour Station.

There are plenty of opportunities to go on day trips to see the rest of the Maritimes.

Prince Edward Island is only 3 to 3.5 hours by car.
Halifax, Nova Scotia is about 4 hours by car.
Fredericton, NB is about 75 minutes by car.
Moncton, NB is about 90 minutes by car.
Calais, Maine (USA) is about 90 minutes by car.

The Saint John Airport has daily flights to Toronto, Montreal and Halifax, as well as connecting flights.
