Karl Bauer - Intro to 3D

Karl Bauer is the Modeling Instructor for Atlantica's full-time 3D Program. He graduated from the Centre for Arts and Technology Halifax in 2005 and for the past 3 years has been doing various freelance work.

Recent projects include the History Channel documentary series “Go Deep”. “Go Deep” is currently in it’s second season. The documentaries deal with undersea machinery and exploration. Many of the models used are quite complex and show a working detail of the technology. Karl has also worked on an instructional video for Aurora Energy tailored for Uranium Miners. This included everything from mine shafts to rock crushers, as well as representations of chemical reactions. Karl is also collaborating with 3D animation head instructor Garth Drake on an Animated Christmas music video.
In 2007 Karl spent time in the field doing modeling work for CBC’s Animal Mechanicals.
Other works include character design commissions, and logo design for local bands. Recently Karl provided a synchronized video accompaniment for the non-profit organization “Oscillations” music event “60 X 60”. This was a sixty minute performance of sixty electro-acoustic works by sixty Canadian composers. The video accompaniment was created to assist the listeners by providing information about each piece as it was played in succession.

Jack Butler - Basic Video Camera Training

Jack has worked in the television industry for over 30 years, and made films since the age of 14. Starting with CHSJ television Jack worked his way up from the bottom as a studio assistant and in a few years was able do all the jobs the station had to offer.

As a cameraman, Jack has worked on commercials, live broadcasts and satellite location work. With over 20 years experience in news Jack has covered almost every major story in this region, been on assignment in Bosnia and was trained by the Canadian Forces to be able to cover the war in Afghanistan.  Jack has worked with some of this country’s top television people with shows like So You Think You Can Dance Canada and written shot and produced over 30 short documentaries. Jack is a graduate of UNB and presently works as a freelance photographer.   

 

Garth Drake - Intro to 3D

Garth Drake is the Head Instructor of Atlantica's full-time 3D program. He graduated from the Vancouver Film School and immediately went to work for Mainframe Entertainment on the wildly popular, Reboot. For the next three years he Character Animated on popular shows like Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Beast Machines Heavy Gear, and Action Man. In 2001 he went to work for Electronic Arts, the world's leading video game company, where he worked on games like Fifa 2002, SSX and MVP Baseball. In 2002 he returned to Mainframe to Animate on the feature film, Barbie of Swan Lake, and also did some character animation for the MTV Movie Awards 2002.
In 2004 he took over the Animation Department at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Halifax where he had great success in helping to develop students into Industry Professionals. Recently Garth worked as a Lead Animator at Halifax Film where he worked on CBC's Animal Mechanicals and the smash hit, Bo On The Go.

Blaine LeRoy - Computer Animation 2D

Blaine Le Roy is a West Coast import to Saint John. Originally from British Columbia,Blaine moved to the Maritimes in 1998 and is a self taught computer animator who has been working professionally in the field for 7 years with Innovative Video Solutions. He specializes in 3D computer animation, but polished up his 2d skills to teach the animation for kids classes.

Blaine has spent his entire working life in the arts, starting off as a radio DJ in high school before becoming lead singer in a touring country band on the West Coast. In his spare time he paints, does woodwork, has written an as yet unpublished novel, and is heavily involved in the Saint John Theatre Company, appearing on stage for all their musical productions to date, and working as sound designer for many non musical productions.

Josee Robichaud - Drawing Cartoons, 3D Animation for Kids

Josée Robichaud is a 2D Animator and Illustrator who graduated from the NBCC Miramichi's Art Fundamentals and Animation and Graphics training back in 2008.  Soon after graduating, Josée interned at Hemming House Productions, which later led to a few Freelance and Commission based projects. Josée has since decided to expand on her trade skills by taking training in 3D Modeling and Animation, opening doors and keeping her within the trade she loves.
